History of The Falls Teahouse
Glengariffe, was built by Jeremiah and Francis Daley around
1930 by a local builder Alex Jessop. Much thought and planning went into the original design.
The timber was milled by the Jonsson brothers, who had a mill in
the Beatrice River area. Most of the timber used was oak which was planed by hand. White beech was used to construct
the front verandah, which was scrubbed weekly.
The home was built on the original selection, and initially
Jeremiah and Francis lived here with their twelve children. Red the youngest son still operates the dairyfarm surrounding
the home.
During the 1950s the house on a acre was sold to Patrick the eldest of the children, he lived in the home
with mother Francis and brother Jeremiah. The home was finally bequeathed to Jeremiah's sisters.
Ray and Jennie Gibson purchased the Teahouse in March 2008 and continue the tradition of offering lovely home cooked meals and Bed and Breakfast to guests.
